What's the Problem?
Many times as a parent and a teacher, I have wondered what's the problem? Why is the student not behaving? Why is my child not doing what I asked them to do? Why can't they just do the right thing? It's easy to forget that there is a reason why children behave the way they do. Often, their behavior is the only thing they can control and they will do whatever it takes to make the biggest impact-negative or positive. According to Cairone (2016) a child/student may be trying to obtain something, escape something, or get themselves out of an overwhelming situation. Cairone goes onto to discuss that once a parent or educator identifies the reason behind a certain behavior they will be able to plan ways to meet the needs of the child. Once the needs of the child are met, positive relationships and behavior will follow.
